NASCAR
Sanctioning Body

A sanctioning body for automobile racing in the United States.  NASCAR is the company behind the popular and successful Nextel Cup.

NASCAR started racing in 1949 with the Strictly Stock division.  In 1950, Strictly Stock was renamed Grand National, which became the Winston Cup in 1972 and finally the Nextel Cup in 2004.

NASCAR also sanctions other divisions, such as the Busch Series (formerly the Busch Grand National Series) and the Craftsman Truck Series (formerly the SuperTruck Series by Craftsman).

Theodore Roosevelt is participating in the Speedway Children’s Charities, and sponsored the racing colors of driver Ricky Rudd. Paint schemes depict Ricky Rudd’s 1987 No. 28 Havoline racing team, and NASCAR competitor Tony Stewart. The work was done by the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department, IM-2 division aboard Roosevelt. Roosevelt and her embarked Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1) are conducting missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
