Leading up to the inaugural Brickyard 400 NASCAR held a 9-car tire test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 22-23, 1992.  The 9 drivers were:  Davey Allison, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Ernie Irvan, Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace, and Darrell Waltrip.
