Corvette
Vehicle Model
A sports car produced by Chevrolet. First produced from model years 1954-1982 and again from 1984 on.
The Chevrolet Corvette has made 9 appearances as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500. The first appearance was in 1978 with Jim Rathmann. Corvettes also led the field in 1986 with Chuck Yeager at the wheel, in 1995 with Jim Perkins driving, 1998 with Parnelli Jones, and 2002 with Jim Caviezel. In 2004 it was a C5 driven by Morgan Freeman, in 2005 a C6 driven by Colin Powell, in 2006 a Z06 driven by Lance Armstrong, and in 2008.
Model year 1997 was recalled by the NHTSA because the rear suspension tie rod assembly can fracture (NHTSA recall 97V044, GM Campaign No. 97014).
