Montoya Wins Pole fr Belgian Grand Prix Formula One Race

VOA Sports
September 10, 2005

Colombian McLaren-Mercedes driver Juan Pablo Montoya has won the pole position for Sunday's running of the Belgian Grand Prix Formula One race at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.

Montoya piloted his car around the nearly seven kilometer track in one minute, 46-point-391 seconds, just ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen of Finland.

Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella of Italy had the third fastest time, but will start 10 places back on the grid because he changed his engine. Jarno Trulli of Toyota was fourth fastest followed by championship points leader Fernando Alonso of Spain in a Renault.

The Spaniard is hoping to become Formula One's youngest driving champion at age 24. Alonso leads Raikkonen in the overall standings (103-76), but needs four more points than the Finnish driver this week to lock up the title.
