Vehicle Manufacturer

The Australian division of General Motors.  Started in 1908 as an independent company, it is based in Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Holden designs have been adapted for use in the United States and sold under General Motors' American brands, most notably as the newest generation of Pontiac GTO, the Pontiac G8, and the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice.

Vehicle names used by Holden currently and throughout history:  Commodore, EH, Maloo, Monaro, and Ute.

Holden was mentioned in the 1988 song "Beds are Burning" by Midnight Oil in the first verse, describing the Western Desert of Australia: "Out where the river broke, The blood wood and the desert oak, Holden wrecks and boiling diesels, Steam in forty five degrees."

Holden, along with Ford, is one of the two competitors on the V8 Supercars Australia circuit.  Holden's history with the series dates back to when it was the Australian Touring Car Championship, where Peter Brock won three championships in Holdens.

In the modern V8 Touring Cars/V8 Supercars Australia series, the Holden Commodore has accumulated 8 of 14 championships.
