German Formula One driver Michael Schumacher has clinched an unprecedented sixth season title at the season-ending Japanese Grand Prix.

Schumacher finished Sunday's race in eighth place, which was good enough to earn him the one point he needed to grab this year's Formula One title.

He edged McLaren driver Kimi Raikkonen for the season title, and Schumacher's Ferrari teammate, Rubens Barrichello of Brazil beat the Finland native by less than one second for the Japanese Grand Prix championship.

Schumacher has won four Formula One titles with Ferrari and two with Benetton in 1994 and 1995.
