Alcan, Inc. was a former Canadian materials supplier founded in 1902 as the Northern Aluminum Company, acquired by Rio Tinto in 2007. It became Alcan Aluminum in 1966, and "Alcan Automotive" was the trade name of the division supplying aluminum to automotive OEMs.

Alcan has been a long-term North American raw material supplier of aluminum foundry ingot and extrusion ingot. It also is a leading supplier of sheet aluminum -- used largely in exterior body panels -- to North American OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. The bumper assemblies out of Novi will be the first structural components produced in North America by Alcan. Globally, Alcan structural products customers include Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, PSA Citroen, SEAT,Skoda, Smart and Volkswagen.
