Special Dispatch to AUTOMOTIVE DAILY NEWS
Washington, Aug. 26.—Plans to separate personal property taxes on automobiles from general personal taxes as a cure for “dodgers” is being advocated today by District Tax Collector Towers. He should have both returns filed sepraretely on January 1, instead of July 1, as heretofore, and licenses denied all who cannot show a receipt. An act of Congress will be necessary, however, to carry out the plan. “Hundreds are evading payment of personal taxes on cars and trucks,” declared the collector. “In the past, we have been helpless in the situation. We have threatened to confiscate the machines of evaders, but the records are not in such shape that this is possible.”
