Enclave: Out Comes the Best-looking Buick

Anthony Fontanelle
June 5, 2008

The Buick Enclave is a full-size crossover SUV by the Buick division of General Motors. It was previewed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, officially as a concept car and later was introduced in 2007 for production and sale as a 2008 model. It shares the same platform as the Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia.

“The 2008 Enclave is a 4-door, up to 8-passenger sport-utility, available in 4 trims, ranging from the CX FWD to the CXL AWD. The CX FWD is equipped with a standard 3.6-liter, V6, 275-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 24-mpg on the highway. The CXL AWD is equipped with a standard 3.6-liter, V6, 275-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 22-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.” Overall, however, reviewers are pleased with the Enclave's performance.

The Enclave is just beautiful to look at. Reviewers judge its exterior to be sleek and stylish. Auto Week site thinks that the Enclave is the best looking Buick to hit the streets in years. Its luxurious exterior features curved fender creases in the front and rear, plus a waterfall grille. It also has portholes which are mounted on the trailing edges of the hood, which forms a distinct V shape.

Auto body parts and the interior of the 2008 Enclave, according to reviewers, is spacious and comfortable. Easily noticed is the quietness and comfort that can be experienced while inside this car. Buick's exclusive QuietTuning engineering process reduces, blocks and absorbs unwanted noise from entering Enclave's cabin.

When it comes to function and roominess, Enclave looks smaller on the outside but is totally spacious inside. Enclave’s seats accommodate eight passengers in a two-three-three arrangement from front to back. With 18.9 cubic feet of cargo space available behind the third row, you can bring plenty of gear for the ride.

Standard features for the Enclave includes power windows, remote keyless entry, HID headlights, automatic three-zone climate control, a sassy wood-and-leather-covered steering wheel and a decent stereo that includes an auxiliary input for your MP3 player.

According to usnews.rankingsandreviews.com “It scores five out of five in government front and side crash tests, and four out of five in rollover tests.” It has a four-wheel disc antilock brakes, and StabiliTrak, which is a stability control system that detects unsafe conditions and selectively applies brakes and throttle to maintain vehicle control. These features truly assure the safety of every person riding the Enclave.
