NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT will rebuild the Oceanport Avenue railroad crossing starting on or about Wednesday, October 3 to enhance pedestrian safety and provide a smoother ride for motor vehicles.

During the project, which is expected to be completed by October 17, NJ TRANSIT crews will install new pedestrian crossing gates, additional inter-track fencing, new concrete railroad ties and rails and a new rubber surface between the rails for a smoother ride over the tracks.

Detour signs will guide motorists around the construction activity and police will direct traffic to help motorists navigate the detour.

Details of the detour are as follows:

The crossing is located a short distance from NJ TRANSIT’s Little Silver Station on the North Jersey Coast Line.
