KANSAS CITY, Kansas (October 5, 2009) - - Patrick Sheltra’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) debut at Kansas Speedway was cut prematurely short in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 after contact on the first lap with another competitor resulted in a 37th place finish in the No. 81 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger.

Reuniting with MacDonald Motorsports for the 29th race of the season, Sheltra had hopes of improving on a solid run at Daytona International Speedway in July that was also cut short after Sheltra was gobbled up in a multi-car incident.

After finishing 11th in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Kansas Lottery 150 on Thursday afternoon, the Indiantown, Florida native was looking to secure his first top-20 finish in his fourth career Nationwide run.

Practice on Friday proved to be beneficial for the David Ingram led team as Sheltra’s lap times remained consistent with Sheltra also picking up the pace in “Happy Hour” which landed the team comfortably inside the top-30.

In qualifying Saturday morning, Sheltra qualified 38th. While the starting position was disappointing, the 23-year old rising star was confident in his car’s capabilities for the 200-lap event.

Sheltra began climbing through the running order from the moment his Pat MacDonald owned Dodger Charger crossed the start-finish line heading into turn one. Unfortunately, by the time Sheltra exited turn two his neon-green and camouflage No. 81 machine was bouncing off the wall.

The full-time ARCA RE/MAX Series driver re-fired his machine and brought his car to the attention of Ingram and the MacDonald Motorsports team where they examined the mangled No. 81 Dodge and deemed the damage needed to be fixed in the garage.

An honorable repair effort by the MacDonald Motorsports team would prove to be null as upon further review it was determined that further damage that could not be fixed at the track was incurred. Sheltra would be credited with completing 18 laps.

“That stinks,” said Sheltra. “I just hate it for everyone on the team and our marketing partners Buffalo Wings & Rings and MC2 Energy Drink who made this race possible. We were hoping for a good day, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

He added, “I just want to thank Randy and Pat MacDonald for the opportunity, David Ingram and the entire MacDonald Motorsports team for everything. I feel we made some positive gains from Daytona and hopefully we can go into the next race and have a nice rebound.”

The final planned race for Sheltra on the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule is the season finale Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 21. Sheltra claimed a solid 24th place finish in last year’s event driving the No. 4 Dodge Charger for Jay Robinson Racing. Sheltra will once again drive for MacDonald Motorsports.
