LEBANON, Tennessee (Wednesday, August 8, 2007) - - No one can challenge that ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Bryan Silas hasn’t been a factor lately. The rookie has continued to flourish inside the top-10 for the last three races.
And while the results may not always testify that Silas has been strong, he’s looking to make some noise of his own from start to finish as the ARCA series returns to Nashville Superspeedway for the running of the TOYOTA ARCA 150 this weekend.
Silas, driving for two-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Andy Hillenburg returns to the “ Music City ” looking for his fourth top-10 finish of the season.
The Stuart, Florida native also returns to the 1.333-mile track looking for redemption after an engine failure in the spring event seized a solid run and left Silas wanting another chance this weekend.
“I really like Nashville ,” said Silas, who sits ninth in the championship standings entering this weekend’s activities. “We had a good car here in April. It’s actually the same car we ran last weekend at Pocono. We won’t have that car here this weekend, but I’m not worried. The Fast Track Racing guys have put together an even stronger car for the race and I think we can continue to be in the spotlight on Saturday.”
Indeed, Silas has all the credentials to back up that statement as the rookie was one of 17 drivers and teams to participate in the TOYOTA ARCA 150 open test last month. The results were promising after Silas maneuvered his No. 11 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to unofficially the fifth fastest time with a time of 30.86 seconds at 155.205 MPH, just two-tenths of a second from the fastest car driven by Michael McDowell.
“The test was a raging success,” offered Silas. “We came to the test looking to throw a couple of different setups on the car. The car handled and adapted really well. The race is going to be strong. We are expecting a lot of good cars for the race this weekend, so one of the reasons I think we’ll excel is because of the extra seat time at Nashville .”
Silas continued, “My teammate Chad McCumbee won the event in the spring and I really have a feeling that our program is strong enough where we can make it two wins back-to-back for Fast Track Racing on Saturday.”
The surface of Nashville Superspeedway is concrete, the only track on the schedule that offers the unique characteristic.
“It’s pretty cool to race on a concrete track,” sounded Silas. “The track is tough, there’s no doubt about that. The trouble spots in turn two and four are rough, but I think that’s what makes the race exciting. This place can come up and grab you at any minute, if you aren’t careful. We’re going to use conservative mode at the start and put the pressure on when it needs to be performed.”
Nortrax, Shell Rotella T, Holland Pump and Palm Beach Grading (PBG) will all sponsor the No. 11 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in the 14th ARCA event held at Nashville Superspeedway.
“We are on a stretch of having live television coverage of our events and that’s great for our sponsors,” Silas stated. “Last week, we had a good run go bad after the driver made a mistake. I’ve learned from that. I’m approaching this weekend’s race looking for another top-10 and plan on using the give and take method, while still remembering that I want to give my sponsors the best finish possible.”
Heading into Nashville, Silas has 20 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with a career best finish of eighth at Salem Speedway (April 2007) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2007) while holding an additional top-10 performance at USA International Speedway (March 2007). He holds a career best short track time trials effort of seventh at Berlin Raceway (July 2007). A fourth place qualifying effort at Pocono Raceway (June 2007) is Silas's best speedway run to date. He has controlled the ARCA field for 15 laps in one race.
The TOYOTA ARCA 150 (113 laps/150 miles) is the 15 of 23 races on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 14th ARCA race held at Nashville Superspeedway is a two-day show. Practice begins Friday, August 10 with a two hour and a half hour (11:00am-1:30pm) session planned. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 5:30pm Local Time.
