Autotrader is currently carrying an advert for a genuine, original Ferrari, for £11,950. The car in question is a Ferrari Mondial QV. It's got 2 doors, 4 seats and has a 3 litre V8 which had 240bhp when it left the factory (although some may have disappeared by now).

I did a bit of research on Ferrari forums and the Mondial QV (Quattrovalvole) is a pretty well respected car. It's also thought of as a better car than the 308 because it came with rust protection so most examples are reasonably rust free.

Here's what someone said in an American Ferrari owners forum about the Mondial: "I have used my Mondial as a daily driver for the last couple of years. It is reliable, sounds, smells and looks great. These cars are amazing to drive. Of course service costs are huge, a full engine rebuild can cost as much as a good Mondial is worth. I purchased my car with a fresh 30K service. So far, I have averaged about $1500.00 year in additional maintenance costs."

So, as with any old supercar, whilst the purchase price may be low the ongoing costs can be high. It's also important to buy one in as good condition as possible. This car needs to be thoroughly checked by a specialist before you go anywhere near it.

However for just £12,000 this would be a sensational buy, although I wouldn't countenance buying one as your only car.
