CONCORD, North Carolina (July 6, 2011) - - In every division racing, any driver is bound to experience their fair share of misfortune. For Crandall, Texas native Michael Dabney Jr., he experienced two nights of highs and lows in this week’s edition of the 2011 Summer Shootout Series.

Dabney Jr., driver of the No. 5 INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series battled through adversity and weather on Monday. Starting deep in the field in the feature event after electing not to partake in a qualifying session in the rain, Dabney Jr. brought up the rear of the field for the Independence Day contest.

The rising sensation wowed the crowds of both sides of the spectrum with an impressive performance that saw the Late Model-bound driver cleverly negotiate traffic and a competitive field. In a short span of 20 laps, Dabney’s black hot rod was able to methodically puncture his way through the field and take the checkered flag in the 10th position after starting 28th.

With a positive attitude, Dabney Jr. looked to Tuesday night’s action to continue the climb in the right direction. Unfortunately, the Mooresville, North Carolina resident would be stalled during his heat race when the bumper became dislodged from his automobile forcing a black flag to be issued to the Texan. Dabney Jr. responded to the ruling and returned to the garage area for an assessment. With his vehicle repaired, Dabney Jr. shifted his focus towards racing.

Once again mired in the rear of the field, Dabney Jr. would patiently but aggressively maneuver his way through the field. As Dabney Jr. made his trek towards the front, contact from another competitor three laps from the finish saw the No. 5 loop in turn two with Dabney Jr. masterfully keeping his race car off the wall. Grabbing a gear and returning to competition speed, Dabney Jr. would solider on and take the checkered flag.

“It was definitely two nights of emotions,” said the 22-year old. “Monday night was great. The car was super-fast and hooked up to the track. I wish I would have had a couple more laps because I think I would have something for those leaders. Tuesday night was just a race that every driver experiences during their career. I was able to bounce back from a hiccup in the heat before getting turned late in the feature. I’m obviously frustrated that it happened, but it was a racing deal. I’ll chalk it up and move on to getting back to the grind next week.”

Dabney Jr. expressed his overall thoughts on the Summer Showdown thus far. “It’s been extremely competitive. Everyone is really eager to race which provides a good show for the fans. Staying alert and attentive has been the biggest thing I’ve learned so far. Weather has also been a factor. I’m not willing to take any chances of something happening in the rain that might keep me from competition. I would rather do it the hard way and earn the respect of my peers and others than risk something unfortunate happening. Surging ahead, I’m going to try hard and see if we can’t qualify a little better. I don’t mind competing in the heat races, because its laps under my belt, but it would be nice goal for the rest of the month to just transfer the focus from qualifying right into the race.”

He closed out by saying, “I just want to thank everyone who continues to support Michael Dabney Jr. Motorsports. I would not be here without the help and support of certain people and I am forever grateful and indebted to them for that. Hopefully, I can get a victory here soon to be able to thank them properly.”

A scheduled practice on Monday, July 11 has been transferred into a racing night as a make-up for last week’s rainout. Racing will continue on Tuesday, July 12th with the concluding chapter approaching on Tuesday, July 26th.
