“Racing’s Newest Young-Gun Vows To Bounce Back”

Zach Knowles
MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (June 17, 2011) - - 21-year old Zach Knowles hasn’t had the best start to the 2011 edition of the INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series Summer Showdown at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. However, the finishes have only further propelled the Mooresville, North Carolina resident to bounce back in-style next Tuesday night.

Knowles, in his No. 51 Bosch automobile had a successful opening night by making the feature event and soldiering onto a 19th place finish in the 20-lap sprint. Relaying back to his crew, Knowles informed them on how his machine handled during the night and offered changes leaning into round two of action the next day.

The feedback paid off. With Knowles turning consistent and faster lap times, the Houston, Texas native had high hopes for the second feature of the week. Early on, Knowles made his presence known by quickly bolting into the top-20.

Just as quick as Knowles began to make his charge towards the front, contact from another competitor sent the No. 51 into a spin before being hit by yet another vehicle. With visible damage, Knowles was able to leave the scene of the incident where his crew did a magnificent job repairing the No. 51 Bosch machine and sending their driver back into battle.

Trouble though would strike just three laps after taking the green flag after a slew of race cars tangled on the backstretch with Knowles once again being a victim of circumstances and being plowed by another racer. Heavy front-end damage would force Knowles to exit the event, finishing in the 24th position.

“I was feeling pretty good about our Bosch car early on in the second feature,” said Knowles. “I was biding my time and then I just got turned. I understand that it’s a quick race, but to be taken out twice like I was will leave any driver frustrated. We will bounce back though. I have the motivation to go out there next week and show that I can get the job done and compete competitively in the Pro division.”

Not only motivation will carry Knowles back to the quarter-mile track next but also some rejuvenating confidence after testing at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway in a Super Late Model with Lee Faulk Racing on Thursday.

During an extensive afternoon of testing, Knowles had his first tango with a heavier car. Massive improvements start to finish not only put smiles on Knowles face but also caught the attention of members of the Lee Faulk Racing team.

“I had a lot of fun at Hickory,” Knowles sounded. “I cannot thank Michael and Lee Faulk enough for the opportunity to test and get comfortable with these heavier cars. We’re going to iron out a plan moving forward and I’m hopeful that this will turn into something down the road.”

Michael Faulk, an accomplished racer himself noted about Knowles performance. “Zach did an incredible job,” he said. “He did everything we asked him to do and then some. His times improved from start to finish and his feedback was spot on. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to possibly work with him in the future.”

As for the Summer Shootout, practice resumes at 5:00 p.m. and concludes at 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 20. The third race in the 2011 edition of the Summer Shootout kicks off on Tuesday, June 21st and will conclude on Tuesday, July 26th.
