FORT WORTH, Texas (November 9, 2011) - - Making his first return to the race track since competing in the Summer Shootout at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Zach Knowles returned to Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) looking to prove he could get the job done in his own backyard.

The 21-year old didn’t seem to disappoint. With two races set for Saturday and Sunday on the track’s quarter-mile circle, Knowles, a native of Houston, Texas was looking to put his No. 00 ZachKnowles.com / Bosch automobile in contention.

After making changes to his machine following practice on Saturday afternoon, Knowles lined up fourth for his heat race. Wanting to set the tone for the weekend, it didn’t take him long to find his way to the front as Knowles quickly wrenched the lead away and set sail on the field and was the first racecar to take the checkered flag – which easily lifted him into the main attraction.

Starting in the prime spot, position one – Knowles was hoping to carry the momentum over to the short shootout. At the start, the driver admitted to making a mistake as he missed a shift and quickly was freight-trained back to fourth.

Obviously, upset about what just transpired, Knowles’ devotion and passion to bounce back kicked into full gear and was able to pass a fellow competitor for third. After a gallant effort, Knowles tried running down the two leaders but the hiccup proved to be too much to conquer as he ran out of laps.

Still, Knowles considers the night a success, especially after being out of the seat for nearly three months.

“It was good night, minus missing the shift at the start of the feature,” said Knowles. “Our No. 00 ZachKnowles.com / Bosch car was really bad to the bone fast. If not for the mistake at the start of the race, I think we would have been able to hold off the pack. After what happened, I was just happy to gain one spot back. You’re supposed to learn something every time you race; I definitely did in this race.”

The Texan returned to the track the next morning set for round two of the weekend. Unfortunately, Knowles would not have the same luck or success as the night prior.

Because of his performance the night before, Knowles was stuck deep in the field for the start of Sunday’s activity. As the field just received the green flag – the chaos began in turn one when another competitor was turned sending the field scattering with Knowles’ racecar being slammed into from behind – damaging the rear end of the No. 00 ZachKnowles.com / Bosch car.

Able to leave the scene of the incident under his own power, Knowles entered pit road for service, however after being surveyed and losing two laps on the track in the process, the pilot made a decision to end the race to avoid any further damage.

“This was hard to swallow, especially after Saturday night’s run,” Knowles explained. “Cars just started to go everywhere and I thought I was going to escape, but I was drilled from behind. Sometimes that’s just how it goes in racing. You’ll have the ups and the downs and I experienced a little bit of everything this weekend.”

With his INEX Legends Car season complete, Knowles has already begun focusing on 2012 where he hopes to make the climb into Late Models.

“I’m staying behind in Texas for a little while because we have some potential sponsorship in the works,” he noted. “It’s hard being away from North Carolina; but I want to take that next step and I am optimistic that something will fuse together.”
