WHO WON PRACTICE?

Pastor Todd Christopherson
Mid American Stock Car Series

Have you ever been asked that? I have not been asked that. It is always, “Who won (the race)?” I know guys that go out and win practice and then when it comes to qualifying and racing they are mid-pack or worse. Now you can learn things in practice but I know of times where in practice guys are chasing speed and try a new set up and it does not work and they cannot seem to get back to where they once were.

Now practice can be really good. It can be a time to win. A time to learn fast lines, good tire pressure, and good set up. It is a time to learn to win.

Here is the life application! We don’t want to be good; hoping that is what gets us to heaven. Scripture is clear. Salvation is in and through Jesus. We obey, practice, out of love for God.

Let’s look at a couple of Scriptures on the practice

Revelation 21:8 "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." This example shows us that bad practices have consequences – ok, HUGE repercussions.

Psalm 119:56-58 "This has been my practice: I obey your precepts. Heth You are my portion, O LORD; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise." Here is a good example of practicing what is right.

Matthew 7:24-27 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." Here we see an example of both good and not so good choices. We are to obey God and His Word to have something to stand on.

I hope you have chosen to obey, to practice, and not waste life just trying to “win practice” only to find out that it is not the right measuring rod for heaven. Instead you should practice doing right because you want to please the LORD and keep His commands.

Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine and see you at a track soon,
