ENNIS, Texas – After qualifying 16th for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex Saturday, TJ Zizzo and the PEAK Motor Oil Team knew they would have to come out with guns blazing in the first round Sunday. They did just that, burning down the track for an ET of 3.823 seconds, a lap that would have beaten most of the field of 16 NHRA Mello Yello Series Top Fuel competitors. Unfortunately, they were facing the event's top qualifier, Shawn Langdon, who ran a 3.767-second pass that would be the quickest run of the day. Langdon would eventually make it to the final round only to fall to Doug Kalitta.

After heading back to the PEAK Motor Oil pit area to tear down the Zizzo Racing rail, TJ said, despite the loss, he and the team were upbeat.

"That was a near personal record for us and Langdon set the track record to beat us. We've been struggling since Brainerd and after missing the Big Go, we finally found the speed we've been looking for. Losing two rounds of qualifying on Friday due to the rain really hurt us, but we're pretty stoked right now about where we're at with the car. We would have beaten almost any other team out there in Rd. 1 today.

"We're going to take what we learned today and this weekend and use it for our last race of the year in Vegas."

The team's 2013 season finale is the Toyota NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Oct. 25-27. The nitro classes are expected to take to the track Friday at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. local time and again on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Eliminations are scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. For tickets, click HERE.
