TJ Zizzo
CLERMONT, Ind. – It wasn't the weekend the PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel team was hoping for.

The NHRA Mello Yello Series' US Nationals is the biggest race of the year, as proven by a Top Fuel field of 25 cars all hoping to be one of the 16 to race for the Big Go title on Labor Day. Unfortunately, veteran drag racer TJ Zizzo will not be one of those drivers. While the 3.908-second lap he laid down in the final round of qualifying Sunday was his best of the weekend, it wasn't good enough to bump him into the show. The track conditions were back-and-forth all weekend due to weather and one session was canceled due to rain Saturday night. As a result of the lack of consistency, the team was unable to get good data.

"It just wasn't our weekend," Zizzo said after the PEAK Motor Oil team's final run. "We never found the setup we were looking for. Obviously, we're disappointed not to be racing in the US Nationals tomorrow. It's THE race, but now, after running four in a row, we'll take some time off and recoup and get ready for Dallas."

Zizzo ran a 3.949 ET Friday night, but hazed the tires in the only session Saturday and again early Sunday prior to running a 3.908 in Q4.

Defending NHRA Mello Yello Series Top Fuel champion Antron Brown earned top qualifier honors with an ET of 3.811 seconds. He will face Morgan Lucas in E1 on Monday. Drivers missing final eliminations in Indy include Brandon Bernstein, Leah Pruett, JR Todd, and Cory McClenathan. The action kicks off Monday at 11 a.m. local time.

TJ Zizzo and the PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel team are racing next at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas for the 28th Annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals Sept. 20-22. Nitro qualifying is expected to run Friday at 3 and 6 p.m. local time with the final two rounds Saturday at Noon and 3 p.m. Eliminations are scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. Sunday.
