BRAINERD, Minn. – TJ Zizzo and his PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel team continue to achieve their goal of consistent weekends at the track. The 3.852-second ET the team laid down Friday evening here at Brainerd International Raceway held for the team to qualify 14th at Sunday’s NHRA Mello Yello Series Nationals. The Chicago native will face Al Anabi Racing’s Khalid al Balooshi, who earned a berth in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship with his qualifying effort.

Zizzo’s Saturday qualifying consisted of a clean 3.865 ET in the first round of the day followed by a pass of 4.759 seconds in the final lap of the day. The PEAK Motor Oil team wasn’t overly concerned about that particular run since they had already clinch a spot in Sunday’s eliminations.

“We went to 330 feet and it smoked the hoops,” Zizzo said regarding Q4. “That was the first time in many, many times we have done that. We decided to go out there with the same tuneup and see if it would stick on the hottest track surface of the weekend. Now we know what we can expect tomorrow.

“Having that extra round to play with was great for us. When we can get notes like that, it always helps our team and our races in the future.”

Starting E1 at P1 Sunday in the Top Fuel class is Clay Millican, who earned his second top qualifier award of the year with a pass Friday of 3.773 seconds, tying the track-record ET. Millican will face Terry McMillen in 16th. Missing the race in Top Fuel are Zizzo’s fellow Illinoisans Chris “The Greek” Karamesines, Luigi Novelli, and Tim Cullinan.
