JOLIET, Ill.:
JOLIET, Ill. – NHRA Full Throttle Series Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Angie Smith was locked into the field of 16 at Route 66 Raceway Friday and it was a good thing; the North Carolina native was never able to make a full pass Saturday. Her Friday ET of 7.075 seconds at 185.89 mph stood, putting her in the 14th position and facing defending PSM champ, LE Tonglet. The pairing will be a rematch of last year’s semi-finals here where Smith lost an extremely close race to Tonglet, who went on to win the O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals.

“My bike never went down the track today and we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Smith said. “It’s probably going to be an all-nighter, we’re probably going to be up until 3 a.m. Something isn’t jiving right between the shifter and the transmission, but I’m a hundred percent sure we’re going to get it fixed.

“I probably won’t sleep any tonight, but that’s alright. As long as it goes down the track alright tomorrow and it shifts five times, I’ll be happy.”

Hector Arana III maintained his hold on P1 Saturday with a pass of 6.950 seconds at 191.65 mph. Smith’s team owner, tuner, and husband, former class champion Matt Smith, qualified seventh and faces rookie Gerald Savoie in E1. Eliminations start at 11 a.m. Sunday.
