Bojangles’ Driver Returns After Two Race Absence

HICKORY, North Carolina (October 15, 2014) - - After a two-race absence from X-1R Pro Cup Series competition following an injury sustained in September, Reid Wilson is expected to return to compete in the season finale in Saturday’s Bojangles’ 250 from Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Wilson, a second year Pro Cup competitor and a freshman engineering student at UNC Charlotte, has been recovering from injury when contact from another competitor sent Wilson’s No. 66 Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Chevrolet hard into the outside wall at Southern National (N.C.) Motorsports Park, September 6.

“I’m glad to be getting back in the saddle this weekend,” said Reid Wilson. “I know it’s only been two races, but it feels like a year. We had to take the cautious approach to make sure I was able to compete in Saturday’s finale from Hickory. I’m feeling good, just ready to get back behind the wheel of our famed No. 66 Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Chevrolet.”

Wilson’s return to action couldn’t come at a better time.

This weekend’s event is sponsored by Bojangles’, Wilson’s primary sponsor and with a lot of hype setting the tone for the 12th and final race of the season, Wilson is ready to step up to the plate and deliver, despite being out of the groove for nearly a month.

“I’ve been waiting for this race ever since our first race in March at Southern National,” explained Wilson. “Hickory (Motor Speedway) is such a great race track, with a lot of history and a great area for Bojangles’. We’ve done a lot to get prepared for this race, including commercials and ticket giveaways. I enjoy all the behind-the-scenes work. “

Another reason that the Huntersville, North Carolina native is eager for the 250-lap race this weekend is his prior performances at the 0.5-mile paved oval. In three starts, Wilson has delivered two top-10 finishes, including a then career-best third in March, after starting fourth. In just his second Pro Cup Series race in 2013, he won the pole.

Wilson’s quick adaption to the track’s bumpy characteristics, not to mention finding a comfort zone within the track’s preferred path, the opportunity to deliver his first career X-1R Pro Cup Series win, would not be farfetched.

“I’ve come to really like Hickory,” noted Wilson. “It’s a place where conserving your car is everything. You need to be able to have the car turning through the corner, especially on the bottom of Turn 4 to try and have that advantage coming to the start-finish line. We also haven’t finished outside the top-10 this season and I’m determined to not let that stat fall by the wayside.”

Wilson started the X-1R Pro Cup four-race championship series only five points out of first place, but his two race absence has put him out of the hunt for the championship. Currently occupying the sixth place position in the Pro Cup Series, the 18-year old knows there’s only one approach to the weekend.

“We’re here to win, especially in our sponsor’s race,” sounded Wilson. “We were fast in the race in March, just didn’t have enough laps to get it done. This time around, we don’t have points to worry about, so we’re focused on going out there and giving it our all and hope we can come away with the win. My Crew Chief (Mike) Pop Herman has built me a new car. I call it Bo 2.0, and it’s the best and fastest car we’ve had. Pop always brings great cars right off the trailer.”

The Bojangles’ 250 (93.75 miles / 250 laps) is set for Saturday night, October 18 with a scheduled green flag shortly after 7:00 p.m.
