Alonso needs a miracle to win

Audrey Nolan
October 22, 2007

On his way to be a three time Formula One World Champion, Fernando Alonso says he needs a miracle to accomplish the dream, since he will start fourth position next Sunday at the Brazilian Grand Prix, following Kimmi Raikonen and Lewis Hamilton who are third and second respectively.

"In not starting on pole I've thrown away a little bit of my only possibility to win the race," remarked Alonso. "I'm starting fourth, and it is very difficult to overtake because everyone is so close together in lap times. "Tomorrow we will have exactly the same strategy, stops, laps etc, so there is no chance to overtake with the strategy or be lucky or something like that. "It's not that I'm pessimistic, but I am realistic. I need a race like China or something like that, a mechanical problem, or a very unlucky race from my opponents”.

Also; there are rumors which suggest that all the team, including Ron Dennis, made some comments after the race in China that meant they were not racing against Kimi, they were racing against Alonso, comments he was forced later to explain.

It is almost a certainty Alonso it’s not going to be with McLaren team next year and the Brazilian Grand Prix is the last tournament he is going to be racing with the team, after a very difficult year full of rumors and comments.

"Every championship, every season you learn things, and for sure I've learned things this year. I didn't have the best relationship with the team, and even in the last race we heard from the team principal they were racing against me in a way. So that's not very nice. You always find difficulties, but I am stronger than last year, and in the near future I will hopefully be back again."
