30 Killed in Ivory Coast Bus Crash

VOA Breaking News (Voice of America)

A bus crash in the economic capital of Ivory Coast Friday killed some 30 people.

Reports on the crash say the overcrowded bus was crossing a bridge over the Ebrie lagoon in Abidjan, when it veered off the bridge into the water.

Rescuers have pulled some bodies and survivors from the wreckage. Authorities have not announced an official death toll, but unofficial reports put the total at 30 or more.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Local reports say the bus crashed into at least one car. Photographs show a badly damaged car being towed from the site of the crash.

President Alassane Ouattara and Prime Minister Guillaume Soro visited the crash site Friday.
