Geoff Bodine to Race in DASH

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - ISCARS DASH Touring, Sanctioned by American Speed Association (ASA) announces that 1986 Daytona 500 Champion Geoff Bodine has reached an agreement with car owner Gary Moore to enter the final two events (four races) of the ISCARS 2008 season.

Bodine will now add his name to an impressive list of drivers that have participated in the series. Fellow Daytona 500 Champion Michael Waltrip won the DASH Series’ Championship in 1983. The list also includes Bobby Labonte, Phil Parsons, Morgan Shephard, Bill Standridge, the late Davey Allison and Rob Moroso, Larry Pearson, and Hut Stricklin. All went on to race in the upper tiers of NASCAR. While others went on to win NASCAR’s top event, this will be the first time a Daytona 500 winner has entered a DASH event.

Bodine’s first response was, “Hey, I have never been in a DASH car. I am looking forward to this and think it is going to be really fun.”

One might wonder why a driver as notable as Geoff Bodine would even want to race in a regional touring event. “For me, it is an opportunity to return to the short tracks, where racing began,” adds Bodine. “I can get close to the fans. We can all have a great time. And, I want to win a DASH race.”

His most recent victory was at Music City Motorplex in Nashville, where he participated in an Old School Racing event that included Harry Gant and Sterlin Marlin. Bodine was pretty stoked that he beat Marlin at his home track.

So what is Geoff Bodine doing most these days? “I am still heavily involved in building and supplying bobsleds for our Olympic Teams,” says Bodine. “We call them Bo-Dyn Bobsleds.” Bodine is also busy as a public speaker for a nutritional food called MonaVie. “I am really up on encouraging people to learn more about what they eat. This product provides the antioxidents, phytonutrients and things our bodies need to protect us from all the pollution we get everyday,”

“We are very excited that Geoff has joined the ISCARS DASH Touring family, says ISCARS President, Randy Claypoole. “This will be great for our fans and also raise the bar for our drivers. Geoff certainly has an impressive resume in racing and I know the rest of the drivers are excited about the opportunity to rub some sheet metal with him.”

There are four races left on the 2008 ISCARS DASH Touring schedule. Dillon Motor Speedway will host two races on Saturday, September 27th. Hickory Motor Speedway will host the final two races on Saturday, October 25th.

Also appearing at both events will be Hollywood Stuntman James Smith. Smith is most noted for his car stunts at the annual Dukes Fest and also the movie Transformers where he drove a sports car on two wheels. Smith will be wowing fans by driving his car on two wheels around the race track.
