Berlin Is Here; Gary Sherman Ready

MARNE, Michigan (July 3, 2007) - - His name doesn’t come up on the entry list too often but when it does, everyone keeps their eyes on Holt Michigan ’s Gary Sherman. And as the 55-year old series heads to Berlin Raceway this Saturday, Sherman is entered and it has people talking.

For months, the Cleary Motorsports team has been preparing for the 12th race on the 2007 schedule and with the just days away, Sherman is counting down the hours with hopes of capturing his third straight Berlin Raceway top-five finish.

With limited sponsorship and volunteer crew members, the Cleary Motorsports team continues to give 150 percent in hopes of attracting a sponsor that would expand the Michigan team’s schedule and put Sherman on the track full time.

“We’ve been waiting all year for this race,” said Sherman, who will drive the No. 76 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Saturday. “I can’t say enough about my guys. They are a dedicated bunch who just wants to win. We’ve come really close the past two years and we’re hoping to put ourselves in the mix once again this weekend.”

Another strong reason the team is itching for a good run is the team in is negotiations with NFL superstar Andre Rison to join the Cleary Motorsports team as a partner that would allow the Cleary Motorsports team to enter more races not only in the ARCA RE/MAX Series but in selected NASCAR Busch Series as well.

“Things are progressing positively forward with Andre,” Sherman added. “He is really interested in racing and he would make a great asset to this team once we get everything worked out. Hopefully we’ll be able to announce more in the future.”

Sherman continued, “We continue to dig to find a marketing partner for our Cleary Motorsports team. This has been our biggest setback. I know that if we found a great marketing partner that we would be able to put the crew and cars together that would make us contenders week in and week out. If we can come to Berlin and be in the spotlight again, I think it could help increase our efforts. We’re glad to have Precision Fleet Image onboard for Saturday’s race, and I want to thank them for standing behind this team for a long time, we’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing and hope that our hard work pays off.”

The former American Speed Association (ASA) driver will make his ninth career ARS start on Saturday in Berlin . In his eight previous events, Sherman has racked up two top-fives both coming at Berlin and an additional three top-10 efforts. He holds two seventh place finishes at Salem Speedway in 2005 and 2006 and a 10th at Lake Erie Speedway in 2005.

“I have a pretty solid record in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and I owe a lot of it to my Cleary Motorsports team. They have done a great job for me the last two years and I want to win this bad, hopefully we can pull it off this weekend.”

The Request Foods-GFS 200 (200 laps/88 miles) is the 12th of 23 events on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 20th ARCA race held at Berlin Raceway is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, July 7 with an hour and a half practice (2:30pm-4:00pm) session planned. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 5:00pm Local Time. The event will take the green flag later that night at 8:30pm Local Time. The race will not be televised. However, additional race coverage can be found online at arcaracing.com
