How Advanced Traveler Information Systems Are Changing The Way We Think About Urban Mobility. This video is about the benefits of Advanced Traveler Information Systems and how they can be used by travelers to lower stress and reduce time wasted in traffic congestion. Beyond radio traffic reports and overhead or roadside variable message boards, real-time ATIS can be accessed over the internet, by phone (511), or through a service that alerts the user by phone, fax, or pager when traffic on their usual route is particularly bad and suggests what time the traveler should leave and what route to take. Communicating real-time travel condition information can reduce travelers' stress and time wasted in traffic by giving control over selection of time, route and mode of travel, and by increasing the reliability and predictability of travel.
