A sports car produced by BMW.  A homologated race car designed by Guigiaro and with suspension work by Lamborghini.  Body and chassis built in Italy and then shipped to Baur in Germany for final assembly.

The car featured the first appearance of BMW's 24-valve aluminum head racing engine in a street car.

456 were produced for model years 1979-1981.
