A brand of automobiles founded in 1899. Fiat is actually an acronym meaning "Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino," which translated to English means "Factory of Italian Automobiles - Turin."

Over the decades Fiat built itself into a multi-brand Italian automotive conglomerate including the brands Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, Magneti Marelli and Maserati. In October 2014 Fiat merged with the Chrysler Group to form Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, expanding its reach to include Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and the many defunct brands whose rights were owned by Chrysler.

Vehicle names used by Fiat throughout its history include:  131, 500, 500L, Barchetta, Brava, Cinquecento, Grande Punto, Panda, Punto, Spider, Tipo S-74, and X1/9.
