Died:  March 26, 2006

Former IRL rookie driver.  Graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in journalism.

He died in practice for the Toyota 300, the IRL season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 26, 2006.  Ed Carpenter's tire failed, causing him to spin, hit the wall, and slide down the track.  Paul Dana hit Carpenter's car at over 200 mph.  He was taken to the hospital, where he died just after noon local time (almost 2 hours after the crash).
