Slip-On Exhausts and ECU Upgrades Vs. Full Exhaust Enhancements

There are as many stories about motorcycles running sluggish with bad exhaust setups as there are about clogged filter and fluid lines that choke horsepower. You can choose between slip-on exhausts with enhanced Engine Control Unit (ECU) performance and calibration or full exhaust systems that roar like thunder and ride as smooth as the wind. The key is to have an idea for how you'd like to ride the machine you've chosen.

Some motorcycle riders want a low, throttled down muffler sound, while sport racers like the squealing shrill of high-performance exhausts. Start with the actual ECU system and processor on your motorcycle. The ECU, also know as an electronic control unit, calibrates the amount of fuel, ignition timing and other elements that help your engine run effectively and efficiently.

Motorcycle exhausts have as many styles as any other bike accessory. Exhausts come in a few different part styles, varying according to the type and size of the engine and the intended use of the machine. Most motorcycles have a fairly prominent exhaust system on display, some with chrome-plated effects as a way to make their motorcycle more attractive. Aftermarket full exhaust systems are manufactured in a variety of materials including steel, aluminum, and titanium. The new trend in super bikes is the carbon fiber exhaust.

Different motorcycles ride differently, and different exhaust systems flow differently. Some twin cylinder engines flow into one while others flow into twin exhausts. With the quad-cylinder engines, you can have twin or single flow. The question comes up quite a bit about whether to have a performance-enhancing slip-on exhaust or a more customized full exhaust system. The choice is usually to try a slip-on exhaust and see if the fuel injection upgrades work with your bike. ECU upgrades are a great way to make your bike run like a true power machine, while similar riders talk about full system upgrades that change their motorcycle's character. See if you find a Power Commander upgrade or a similar slip-on exhaust system. Power Commander V can be a big boost for your bike.

Check for any specific laws regulating exhaust add-ons and enhancements. Some "pipe laws" have taken effect recently, and you don't want to have to learn the hard way. Part of staying informed is spreading the word, and that's OK by us. We are just hard-core motorcycle enthusiasts who offer customers worry-free shopping experiences that people keep coming back for. Anything motorcycle, racing, or exhaust that you need help with, we can find answers to questions, solutions to any problems, and help you get a better exhaust system.

Shopping for an OEM quad exhaust? Family Powersports would be a great place to start. They've got a great variety, and you'll pay less!
