Striking South African truckers are meeting Friday to consider the trucking association's latest wage hike offer to end a nearly week-long strike.

The current offer increases salaries by 9 percent this year and 8.5 percent in 2012.

Union leaders are expected to notify association representatives later Friday on whether they will accept the deal.

Members of four trucking unions walked off the job and demanded a 20 percent pay increase, shorter hours and a housing allowance.

Since the work stoppage began several trucks were damaged and 14 people have been injured.
