Accident Kills Governor of Venezuela’s Guarico State

Officials in Venezuela say they have recovered the body of William Lara, the governor of Guarico state who was killed when his car crashed into a river.

Venezuela’s Vice President Elias Jaua said the body was recovered Saturday following the Friday accident near San Juan de los Morros, about 130 kilometers southwest of Caracas.

The 53-year-old politician once served as president of Venezuela’s National Assembly. He was also information minister in the administration of President Hugo Chavez.

Lara was elected governor of Guarico state in 2008.
