North Korean Diplomat Suspected in Hit-And-Run

Police in Singapore are investigating reports that a vehicle displaying diplomatic plates and the North Korean flag crashed into a parked car and drove away without stopping.

The incident took place after midnight Thursday in Singapore’s notorious red-light district, Geylang.

Witnesses say a silver-colored Toyota multi-purpose vehicle turned a corner in a narrow street and hit an empty stationary car.

Local reports say the driver in the diplomatic car promptly reversed and almost hit two pedestrians before speeding off. Police say no one was injured in the accident.

Geylang is known for its sex trade and night life. Its narrow streets and lanes are scattered with brothels and short-term motels.

Some information in this story was provided by AFP.
