ARKANSAS ROADS.

Benton County Farmers Denounce Magazine Article.

To the Editor of The New York Times:

Will you kindly publish the following resolution passed by the Benton County Farmers' Union at its regular semiannual meeting Jan. 12, 1922?

“Whereas The New York Times has been the only metropolitan newspaper that has published the facts about the bonded roads in Arkansas, we, the Benton County Farmers' Union, in regular session assembled, view with disgust the untruthful article published some weeks ago in The Outlook magazine over the signature of one Sherman Rogers, in which he makes the statement that 98 per cent. of the people of Arkansas are satisfied with its bonded roads situation. That this statement is a complete perversion of the facts, if applied to Benton County, is proved by the elections held last year in Districts No. 5 and No. 6, in which elections no voting precinct showed a majority in favor of completing the roads and some precincts showed a vote of 100 per cent. against the roads, and at least 50 per cent. of the farms of Benton County will be confiscated by the taxes to pay for the roads that have been built.”
