A Sepang, in Malesia, con il terzo posto conquistato nel Gran Premio, Valentino Rossi si č aggiudicato con una gara di anticipo il titolo mondiale nella classe Moto GP 2009, confermandosi campione e conquistando cosė il suo nono titolo mondiale. In particolare dall'istituzione della classe Moto GP ha vinto 6 volte su 8.
L'ultimo ad averlo battuto nella sfida mondiale č stato Casey Stoner, oggi dominatore in Malesia, nel 2007.
A completare il successo di Rossi il mondiale costruttori della sua Yamaha grazie anche al contributo del giovane Lorenzo, arresosi solo oggi nella sfida mondiale con il compagno di squadra, piazzandosi solo quarto.
