Nissan Posts Strong August Sales

Asian automaker Nissan had a good month last August. The automaker recently announced their sales output for last month. Nissan sold 95,527 units of cars and light trucks last month. That number of vehicles sold is 6.3 percent higher than the company's sales for the same month last year. Both the Nissan and Infiniti divisions of the automaker showed an increased sale - a sign that Nissan is showing resurgence in its bid to take back its place as Japan's second largest automaker.

The Nissan division of the Japanese automaker posted an increase of 6.0 percent over last year. The luxury division Infiniti on the other hand posted higher increase of 8.7 percent compared to August 2006.

The Nissan division sold 85,275 units for the month of August. Last year, the division sold 80,419 units for the same month. The automaker's flagship, the Altima gave the automaker a boost as it posted an increase of 25.4 percent. That increase in the sales of Altima is computed for the Altima sedan, coupe, and hybrid versions combined. 25,434 units of the Altima were sold by the automaker for the month of August. Last year, when the Altima was offered only as a coupe or a sedan, Nissan sold 20,281 units.

Another Nissan nameplate which posted an increase in sales last month is the Nissan Titan. This full-size pickup may not be as popular as the Silverado or the F150 but its popularity is increasing as can be seen in the increased sale for the said pickup. Last month, 6,985 units of the Nissan Titan were sold. Last year, for the same month, Nissan sold 5,650 units of the Titan. The increase for this year is at 23.6 percent. The Titan is the best selling light truck produced by Nissan - a Japanese company known for reliable auto parts such as Nissan 280X radiators and other components.

The Nissan Murano also helped Nissan post an increase in sale for the month of August. The midsize crossover SUV is the second best selling large car of the Nissan division. Last month, 6,580 units of the Murano were sold, an improvement of 2.2 percent to last year's sale of 6,440 units.

Year to date sale for the Nissan division for cars shows an increase of 16.7 percent as compared to the same period last year. For the first eight months of the year, the Nissan division has already sold 368,306 units, an improvement over last year's 313,987 sale for the same period.

Meanwhile, the luxury division of the Japanese automaker sold 9,429 cars and light trucks for the month of August this year. Last year's August sale for the luxury division totaled 9,429 units. The Infiniti G Sedan leads the way for the division. Sales for the said nameplate jumped by 42.3 percent with 4,349 units of the G Sedan sold last month compared to the 3,056 units of the nameplate sold last year for the same month. Year to date sale for the luxury division also increased with 83,574 units already sold for the first eight months of the year, an increase of 6.8 percent compared to last year's 77,868 units sold.
