Considering A Used Car?

Considering A Used Car?

Thomas Michaels
21 August 2012

Some people only buy new cars because they believe they are of higher quality than used cars. However, what they don't realize is that some cars that are used are in better condition because they have been worn in and the car is performing at its best. A car straight from the factory isn't always the best because the car hasn't warmed up. It hasn't been tested correctly. So, don't ever eliminate used cars from your list of choices.

How do you select a used car? Well, it really depends on your budget. How much are you looking to spend? Some used cars are only a year to two old and are still new in many regards and they are considerably cheaper. This is one of the positives of slightly used cars that are a year or two old--they are reduced in price but retain the same quality. If you have the budget for a fairly recent used car, then it is definitely worth your buy.

Another good hint when purchasing a new car is to consider the number of owners a car has seen. If you find a used car with one owner, or even two, then you know the car has been kept in good condition. When you start finding cars with five or six owners, then you should consider this a warning. Why would most give up a car several times? Probably because the car has certain issues either with the body, cosmetic or engine damage. This should turn you away from a car.

Consider the amount of miles a person puts on a car in a certain amount of time. Some people travel tremendous amounts and wear a car out. Read the history of the car and consider the mileage per year. This can show you how much a person drove every year by the count of the odometer and can help you determine whether the car is in good condition or not.

There are several websites, like Carfax, that offer a detailed history of cars. This history will provide information on maintenance and wrecks. Be careful with cars that have had high impact wrecks and have received paint work. These are the signs of serious problems and should turn you away from a car.

Several aspects of a car will give you key information you need to know, you just have to know where to look. Just remember--used cars aren't a bad choice, but you must be informed in your selection.
