The Federal Highway and Federal Transit Administrations have approved New Jersey's State Transportation Improvement Program for fiscal years 2006 to 2008.

After recent meetings with FHWA and FTA, New Jersey transportation officials provided the financial documentation needed to meet federal financial criteria and ensure that the state's transportation program is fiscally sound. Specifically, New Jersey identified funding sources for federally funded and regionally significant non-federal projects.

FHWA and FTA also reminded New Jersey that federal approval does not pertain to state and local projects that do not receive federal funds. New Jersey is solely responsible for the financial viability of those projects.

FHWA and FTA will continue to work with New Jersey officials to protect the interests of federal taxpayers and provide fiscally sound highway and transit improvements for residents of the state.
