The U.S. Department of Transportation today released the Comprehensive Truck Size and Weight Limits Study Report to Congress. The Department was called upon in the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) to study the issues associated with trucks operating within and in excess of current size and weight limits. The report concludes that additional data analysis is necessary to fully understand the impacts of heavier and larger trucks on the transportation system. Importantly, the Department finds that the data limitations are so profound that no changes in the relevant laws and regulations should be considered until these limitations are overcome. The report is available at CTSWLS webpage.
