After a three-month absence, Pontiac and Cadillac automobiles once again will be sold in Hopkinsville, a spokesman for the Sisk Motor Co. announced at a press conference this morning.

Albert W. Sisk said that General Motors has awarded his company the Pontiac-Cadillac automobile franchise for Hopkinsville. Formal papers making the pact official were signed by Sisk last Friday.

The Sisk family, which has operated new car dealerships locally since the mid-1940's, presently owns the franchises for Chrysler, Dodge, AMC, Jeep and Honda new car sales in addition to the newly-acquired Pontiac and Cadillac lines.

Sales of the two General Motors-produced car models has been suspended locally since Mason Pontiac-Cadillac closed its doors last December.

Prior to Mason receiving the franchise in 1977, the dealership had been known as Pattison Pontiac-Cadillac for the previous 17 years.

Sisk explained that present plans call for locating the new dealership, to be called Sisk Pontiac-Cadillac, at their Ninth & Campbell location and moving the Chrysler, Dodge, AMC and Jeep sales facilities to Mason's former location at Fourth and Main streets.

That major move, as well as other activities, is scheduled to take place within the next two weeks.

Pontiac automobiles are now in stock, Sisk says, and Cadillac models will be arriving within two weeks. In addition to regular service currently available on the two models, factory-authorized warranty service will be available "in the very near future."

Sisk says the company's service department is not yet "fully oriented" to providing the warranty service. He emphasizes that there will be no interruption in either sales or service of their present models during the transition period.

Sisk Pontiac-Cadillac will be a full-service dealership offering Pontiac and Cadillac sales and leasing, used cars and trucks, service, parts, body work, frame and alignment services and daily rentals, according to Sisk.

In addition to reopening a downtown sales location, the new franchise will mean the hiring of several local people.

"We have already hired several people, including an office manager, parts manager and two salesmen," Sisk said. He added that after the dealership gets into its new facilities, other new people likely will be hired.

Despite recent hard times for the automobile industry, Sisk expresses optimism about the new dealership and is enthusiastic about both cars now in production and those on the drawing board.

"There are revolutionary changes taking place in the domestic industry with new products and technology taking place daily," Sisk said. "All these changes are taking place to provide transportation that not only offers style, but more importantly, offers quality and economy."
