September 24, 2015

So, in case you haven't heard the massive news, Volkswagen had programmed about 11 million cars to "cheat" on emissions tests by turning on full emissions controls only when it detected that it was being tested and to leave them off otherwise. CEO Martin Winterkorn has resigned, and penalties from government agencies across Europe and North America could cost them billions.

While this may shock the stereotypical eco-friendly Mac-toting chai-drinking liberal who loves their Beetle, VW could become the unlikely hero of the right-wing "fuck the government" and "don't tell me what I can and can't drive" crowd for pulling one over on The Big Bad Bureaucracy.

Alas, after some searching the only related tweet I could find was this...

Maybe it will take some time. Y'know, after the initial knee-jerk "fuck Obummer" reaction settles down. There are, however, a ton of conspiracy theories flying about this already at WorldNetDaily, your source for all things tinfoil-hat related.

The timing of this couldn't be better, since us Cub Scout parents know that popcorn fundraiser season is going on now!
