MILLVILLE, New Jersey (September 12, 2009) - - What a difference a year makes. After qualifying deep (21st) in the field last year at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran Patrick Sheltra stepped up to the plate Saturday afternoon and qualified his No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS eighth for Sunday’s The South Jersey Building Trades 150.

The qualifying run was a step in the right direction for the Indiantown, Florida native as more speed was produced in the Sheltra Motorsports machine led by veteran crew chief John Hayden.

After clocking the 11th fastest lap in final practice, Sheltra consulted with both Hayden and 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion and driver coach Ted Musgrave about their goals for qualifying.

Rolling out in the third of seven groups in time trials based upon how you practiced earlier in the day, Sheltra whistled his Grace Sheltra owned machine around the 2.25-mile road course for a total of four laps producing a best time of 84.458 seconds at 95.906 miles per hour. The effort led Sheltra to his eighth top-10 qualifying run of 2009.

“We’re pretty happy with that, we really can’t complain,” said Sheltra, who will be featured in the official New Jersey Motorsports track program Sunday. “We found some more speed and passed some of our competition for practice. I don’t think you can ask for more than that.”

He added, “The race is going to be a interesting one for sure. You’re going to have a couple different classes. However, I think as the race rolls on you’ll see the groups combine hopefully into one pack and we’ll see a great finish. The number one goal for us is to keep the Buffalo Wings & Rings Chevrolet on the pavement and walk with a top-10 finish.”

Entering New Jersey, Sheltra has 63 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated 10 top-fives and posted 21 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.

The South Jersey Building Trades 150 (150 miles / 67 laps) is the 18th of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The second ARCA event held at the New Jersey Motorsports Park is a two-day show. The field will take the green flag on Sunday, September 13 shortly after 1:00 p.m. The event will not be televised but broadcast coverage will be available live through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.
