HOUSTON, Texas (September 27, 2012) - - NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) driver Matt Carter won’t be in a car this weekend at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. Instead, the Denver, North Carolina native will head to the Lone Star state as a guest of the Lone Survivor Foundation (LSF) for their third annual gala.

Earlier this year, Carter announced that the Texas-based foundation would be his charity of choice. Since then, Carter has relentlessly been spreading the message about LSF and even hoisted their logos in NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) competition earlier this month at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway.

The Lone Survivor Foundation was organized in 2010 by Petty First Class United States Navy Seal (ret.) Marcus Luttrell and is headquartered in Houston, TX. The Foundation’s mission is to “…restore, empower and renew hope for our wounded warriors and their families using therapeutic support, health and wellness, inspiration, and nature, while emphasizing camaraderie, understanding, respect, and pride."

The Foundation currently provides therapeutic ranch retreats to the men, women, and families that suffer from serious combat injury. The retreats, which are currently held on donated ranches, are focused on stabilizing the family structure, and use methods not readily available in typical government institutions. The Foundation’s methods provide understanding and tools for the problems caused by visible and invisible combat injuries. A part of the Foundation’s overall vision is to develop a holistically focused, therapeutic ranch facility in Texas. Once the funds are raised to build the Lone Survivor Ranch, it will become the base of operations for supporting American service members through partnerships and various therapeutic programs in Texas and across the nation.

“It’s very humbling for me to be asked to attend the Lone Survivor Foundation gala this weekend,” said Carter. “It’s been an inspirational year for me working with a foundation that is so fitting to me. I’m looking forward to Saturday night and all the privileges that come along with this experience of a lifetime.”

LSF founder Luttrell will be one of many guest speakers on Saturday night. Other dignitaries include Brian Stann, Former USMC Infantry Officer and Silver Star Recipient, Colonel David Sutherland, Warrior and Family Support with the Department of Defense, Former Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Robert Leonard, special guest to Luttrell and a Retired, Army E5 and a two-time LSF retreat attendee and Sean Parnell, former Army Ranger and author of Best-Selling book Outlaw Platoon.
