BE PREPARED FOR GRUNDY THUNDER

Matt Panure
Mid American Stock Car Series
July 23, 2012

After a three week hiatus, the Mid-American Stock Car Series will storm onto the 1/3 mile asphalt of Grundy County Speedway. The ante has been raised for any Mid-American member winning the race to $1,000. Randy and Claire Aubart and Acorn Cabinetry of Somonauk, IL have added a little lighting to the storm by adding funds to the winner as well as offering an extra $100 to the highest finishing Grundy Mid-Am racer that has run at least 75% of the Grundy weekly point events this year. Claire says, “We just wanted to help out the Mid-American racers by offering a $1,000 to win purse.” The Aubarts have a long history with the Mid-American Stock Car Series most recently fielding the ride for Mid-Am veteran and smooth driving Jeremy Spoonmore, also of Somonauk, IL.

The combination has been working well for Spoonmore. He will enter the eye of the storm coming off his first win of the season at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI. In one of the most competitive seasons of late, he is running strong at fourth place in Mid-American points.

The hill is a steep climb for Spoonmore with two former champs and a hard charging rookie leading the way up that point hill. Ryan Farrell of Big Bend, WI came upon the scene this season as a rookie contender only to post quick time and win the Rockford opener. Farrell is currently third in points.

Veteran and champion Lyle Nowak of Wausau, WI leads Farrell up the hill in second place. Nowak brings several track and one Mid-American championship to the table. He lead the way at feature’s end once this season beating James Swan, Genoa City, WI, and Spoonmore to the stripe at Dells Motor Speedway. At Wausau Nowak was putting the pressure on Spoonmore in a last lap charge when he got ‘bad loose’ coming out of turn two falling to third at the checkered flag. Expect the unexpected from the tenacious Nowak.

On top of the hill this season and looking for a sixth Mid-Am championship since 2001 is the current point leader, James Swan. Swan already has two quick times and two feature wins this season. You can never count the smooth driving Swan out. Five championships doesn’t come easily in Mid-American. The cunning Swan is always one to be reckoned with and you can count on him to be there at the end.

Also expected to attempt to conquer the storm are veterans Rick Tackman, Waukesha, WI and Jake Finney, Sycamore, IL. Tackman, coming into his own this season, had his first career Mid-American quick time at Wausau and backed it up with a solid second place finish in the feature. Tackman is currently sixth in the point standings. Finney has had his share of laps at Grundy County Speedway running weekly shows and is currently a respectable eighth in Mid-American standings.

Look for these stars and many of the weekly Grundy County Speedway Mid-American cars to mix it up this Friday night, July 27th. Series owner, Doug Strasburg says, “Competition has been extraordinary this season and the quality of racing in this group is unsurpassed.” He continues, “Experience has proven you should expect no less at Grundy!”
