SONOMA, Calif. – Going to a facility for the first time can be a daunting experience. No notes and no experience usually make for no good results. This weekend for TJ Zizzo and the PEAK Motor Oil team was a completely different story.

The NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway is the first-ever NHRA Mello Yello Series event the Chicago native has ever raced here and he topped his personal best in ET and in miles per hour and the latter he did twice. Despite falling to Morgan Lucas in the first round of eliminations Sunday, Zizzo leaves California wine country with a new career record ET of 3.821 seconds and a personal record of 321.81 mph.

“I would say it was one of the better weekends of the year for sure and maybe one of the better weekends of the last two years,” Zizzo said after the round. “I say that because engine parts are good, career-best ET, career-best mph. Barring a round win, which always elevates the excitement level here at Zizzo Racing, but in general, one of the best weekends we’ve had.”

A solid performance by the PEAK Motor Oil rail gives the team even more confidence going into next weekend’s race at Pacific Raceways near Seattle, the second of four-straight event weekends for the team.

“Knowing that we were the most consistent (Top Fuel) car on the premises this weekend, knowing that we set out to run an .87 in our first run and ran a .90 just because a fuel line came off, and knowing that our goal was to get better and better over the weekend, which we did, means we can go to Seattle with the mindset of, we can start with weekend with an .84 or better. We’ve given ourselves a better opportunity to go faster moving forward.

“We should be good to go. I’m excited.”

Zizzo Racing and the PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel dragster next race at Pacific Raceways near Seattle next weekend in the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals. Nitro qualifying kicks off Friday at 3:15 p.m. local time with the second round starting at 6 p.m. Saturday’s nitro qualifying is 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with eliminations scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday.
