Julien Penaruiz Readies Gateway Debut

MADISON, Illinois (August 30, 2007) - - As the ARCA RE/MAX Series heads to Gateway International Raceway (GIR) this weekend for the first of two races in three days, Friday’s Gateway ARCA 150 will be filled with some international flavor.

Paris France ’s Julien Penaruiz will look to make his GIR debut under the lights overlooking the famed Gateway Arch. Driving the No. 93 Chevrolet for K&B Motorsports, Penaruiz looks for more than just a debut on Friday night, he’s looking to make an impression.

Penaruiz qualified for last Sunday’s Governor’s Cup 200, but engine fatigue aboard his No. 93 Ford kept the 30-year old rookie on the sidelines. Looking for a rematch, Penaruiz feels that the 18th event on the 2007 schedule offers a chance not only for his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut, but a chance to turn some heads.

“No doubt that last weekend at The Milwaukee Mile was unfortunate,” said Penaruiz, nicknamed “Frenchie” by members of his K&B Motorsports team. “The team worked hard to correct the engine problem but to no avail. The good news is the motor is fixed and we’re going to fine this weekend.”

Penaruiz will enter GIR clean and green, but the stuntman turned stock car driver has vowed not to let the inexperience stand in his way.

“I was able to adapt to The Milwaukee Mile quickly and I have a feeling, I’ll do the same this weekend at Gateway. It’s another important race for me. The race is televised, so the pressure is on us to go out there and run competitively and bring some exposure to my team and sponsors,” remarked the former Formula-A & Campus Series veteran.

Speaking of sponsors, Red Oil Jeans and Catchit Cam will hold the primary sponsorship duties on the team’s No. 93 entry this weekend.

“We have a great amount of support,” Penaruiz stated. “Red Oil Jeans is based in overseas and they are trying to make a name for themselves in the United States . We are working hard to do that. We’re going to utilize the rest of the ARCA RE/MAX Series season as chance not only to gain some experience for myself, but also to bring the recognition and attention that Red Oil Jeans deserve.”

Thinking ahead to the race, the California resident has set some easy goals for himself heading into his first “speedway” event of the season.

“I just want to finish. It’s all about learning this weekend. We are able to qualify and make the field on time last Saturday and I want to do the same in Gateway. Following the veterans is also a key point for me in this race. Learning is the name of the game on Friday. If we keep our nose clean during the race, the finish should take care of itself,” he sounded.

Following Gateway, Penaruiz is expected to join the K&B Motorsports team and head to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100. David Boggs, who competed for the team in the Allen Crowe 100 is expected to be at the helm.

Penaruiz plans to be at the controls of the Red Oil Jeans machine at the Chicagoland ARCA 200 on September 8.

The Gateway ARCA 150 (120 laps/150 miles) is the 18th of 23 races on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The sixth ARCA race held at Gateway International Raceway is a one day show. Practice begins Friday, August 31 with a two hour practice session planned from 10:30am-12:30pm. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 4:30pm Local Time. The event will take the green flag shortly after 8:00pm Local Time. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage online at arcaracing.com.
