Quote from Alex Tagliani, Driver of the #98 Team Barracuda – BHA Indycar:

“From practice to qualifying, we made some improvements. After St. Pete, we had to change our engine and we now have a ten-position penalty on the grid. In qualifying today, we decided not to use reds. Red tires here are a huge advantage in speed and lap time, but we decided to use the qualifying time as another practice session instead.

“For tomorrow’s race, we’re going to try as best we can to use a strategy that will pay off. Running on red tires in the race will make us leapfrog some cars, get some position and have a good result.”

Quote from Bryan Herta, Team Owner:

“For us, qualifying just became an opportunity to run another practice session on the track. We knew we had a ten grid-place penalty, so we just concentrated on continuing to do some race work with the car. We feel like we made some improvements and hopefully tomorrow that will show in the race.”
