Indianapolis, IN – Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) announced today that Zimbabwe racecar driver Axcil Jefferies will compete in the Firestone Indy Lights Series for the Grand Prix of Houston presented by the Greater Houston Honda Dealers on Saturday, October 5.

Jefferies, a native of Zimbabwe, who made a very impressive American racing debut in August during the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio race weekend is looking forward to competing in his second Indy Lights event on the streets of Houston.

“This is really an unexpected opportunity for me to race in Houston,” said Jefferies. “I knew that my race at Mid-Ohio was a one-off, and I needed to make the best of it. Fortunately, we showed good pace at Mid-Ohio all weekend long, so the team and Chris [Miles] thought we should give Houston a go as well.”

BHA’s No. 28 Dallara/Firestone entry will be sponsored once again by Starting Grid, Inc., which has been a facilitator of a motorsports diversity initiative in partnership with American Honda for the past three years.

Starting Grid, Inc. team principal Chris Miles had this to say: “I am really looking forward to seeing Axcil compete in Houston. His debut performance in Mid-Ohio was a great surprise, and we are hoping that this event will provide him some measure of a level playing field with this being an inaugural event.

“Since Axcil’s initial outing with us at Mid-Ohio, there has been some increased dialogue regarding him competing in Lights full time next year. A positive outcome in Houston would certainly assist those efforts greatly.”

BHA team owner Bryan Herta added, “Axcil made a very good impression on all of us at Mid-Ohio, so naturally we are very happy to welcome him back to the team for the race at Houston. Chris Miles and Starting Grid have created a real opportunity for Axcil, and I am sure he will do everything possible to maximize this chance.”
