Possession and Sale of a Stolen Car Results in 13 Months’ Imprisonment

U.S. Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Pennsylvania
December 2, 2010

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that Senior United States District Court Judge William J. Nealon has sentenced Luis DeJesus, age 27, of Brooklyn, New York, to 13 months’ imprisonment for his possession of a 2006 BMW 750 Li, which had been stolen in New York, New York.

According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, in June 2010, DeJesus pleaded guilty to possessing and selling the vehicle in June 2008, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. The conviction of DeJesus was the result of a coordinated investigative effort by the FBI and the Pennsylvania State Police.

United States Attorney Smith noted that parole has been abolished, and the defendant will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, assuming he receives full time off for good behavior while incarcerated.

In addition to his sentence of imprisonment, Judge Nealon further ordered the defendant to be supervised by a Federal Probation Officer for three years after serving his jail term and that he also pay restitution in the amount of $56,874.34.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John Gurganus prosecuted the case.
